Unfortunately quite a few people who call themselves Christians only want the titles that come from being in the church. Their genuine desire is not to commit to a ministry or build up the Body of Christ but to be able to add Deacon, Pastor, Bishop, etc. to the start of their name.
Matthew 20: 28 (AMP) tells us that Jesus came so that He could “serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many [paying the price to set them free from the penalty of sin].” Being a “Christian” means we’re to be Christ-like and fashioned after Him. Our behavior should reflect Him. Our attitude and actions should mimic His.
If we take an honest look at our lives, are we actually serving? Not the “I’m ‘serving’ so people can see ME” but the “serving because that’s WHO I AM”. How ready are we at a moment’s notice to help others? How willing are we to give our last to a stranger? How determined are we to minister even to those who can’t even stand us? To be like Christ is to work toward serving others and giving ungrudgingly.
Jesus gave His life. What are you willing to give?
