Whew-weee! Believers love to quote Philippians 4:13: I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Yes, this scripture should strengthen and uplift you, but keep two things in mind.
1) You’re going to go through times that are trying and times when doubt may try to take root. If things were always easy, why would you have to remind yourself that you can do it? Scriptures give us all types of warnings about how we’ll be persecuted for our faith (Matthew 5:12), how weapons will be formed against us (Isaiah 54:17), how we’ll have to fight (Ephesians 6:12), and how we will feel weary in the midst of trying to do right (Galatians 6:9). Philippians is reminding us to stay encouraged even when things get a bit bumpy.
2) We can’t be outside God’s will and think we’re still covered by His promise. You can’t be walking in sin, come into hard times, then quote this scripture. Well, you can, but your blatant sin will block your path. Walking righteously, trying to work on our flawed ways, being obedient – this is how to walk and reflect Christ so when hard times come He can work through us. It won’t always be easy but #ContinueToPress #ThankHimThursday
